This mutation was discovered by Kitamoto et al. in a case with spastic paraparesis and progressive severe dementia. Neuropathological examination revealed numerous PrP plaques and PrP deposits in the wall of the brain vessels as well as the meningeal vessels (PrP-congophilic angiopathy). NFT were seen in the neocortex.
